Don Quixote – Chapter XXV – Summary

Don Quixote lands on a brilliant idea:
he’s going to go mad… on purpose.

Not because Dulcinea rejected him,
but because great knights prove their love by suffering like idiots in the wild.

He compares role models, does a quick “best practice analysis”,
and settles on:
👉 stay in the mountains
👉 act miserable
👉 write dramatic stuff about Dulcinea

Meanwhile Sancho tries the classic:
“Are you sure this isn’t… unnecessary?”

Nope.

Instead:

  • Don Quixote writes a love letter to Dulcinea
  • adds a formal note so Sancho can collect donkeys later (priorities 😄)
  • sends Sancho off as messenger
  • and stays behind to perform madness properly

Sancho accepts the mission…
but mostly because there’s paperwork securing his salary.

Core idea:
He doesn’t suffer because of love.
He decides first to be legendary… and then behaves accordingly.

One-liner:
Madness, but with planning, references, and signed documents.
